The first few months of motherhood are a wonderful blur of pure love and heady exhaustion. Taking care of yourself throughout this season is vital, not only to your well-being but to the well-being of all those around you including your (sometimes loud, but adorable) new baby.
Pregnancy is something truly magic. In just nine months, a woman’s body will undergo incredible physical and hormonal changes.
As her body softens and expands, abdominal muscles lengthen, digestive and pelvic organs compress and descend to make room for her baby. These changes cause stress on the body, in particular the back, pelvis and pelvic floor.
Equally, childbirth can take an immense toll on her body and quite often the needs of a new baby will overshadow her own.
Early days will be spent feeding, lifting and rocking (don’t we all when holding a newborn?), sleeping in odd positions, eating cold toast and watching re-runs of Sex and the City.
Changes that have occurred during pregnancy and childbirth, coupled with changes in movement patterns and lack of sleep can lead to a long list of aches, pains and discomfort.
The good news? There are many things that can be done to treat and better still, prevent pain & discomfort throughout pregnancy & motherhood.
